Some Tips for Our Customers

Watering
You can fertilize, overseed and even aerate your lawn, but if you do not provide sufficient amounts of water, you will have a shallow root system and that will lead to a damaged and faded out lawn. Ideally you are aiming for your roots to grow 6 to 8 inches deep to store water in your root system throughout the year and to sustain a durable lawn.

Watering your lawn should be done up to 2-3 times per week depending if you it has recently rained or not. Water your lawn for 1-2 hours each time so it can seep deep into the roots of your lawn. Watering early in the morning is effective so that it will not be evaporated by the sun in the afternoon, nor at night do you want a damp or soaked lawn overnight because that can lead to mold and lawn diseases.

Lawn Mowing
The height at which your lawn should be mowed at is between 3 to 3 ½ inches and should be cut down to about 2 to 2 ½ inches. Grass clippings are rich in nutrients and act as a protector for the crowns of your grass, so it is a good idea to mulch your clippings and leave them on the lawn.

What To Do and Not To Do During Summer

Watering: During a long drought you must water accordingly; either continue to water heavily frequently due to the heat quickly drying up the roots and soil of the lawn or completely stop watering your lawn and let it go dormant (to sleep). Watering infrequently will put a great amount of stress on the lawn due to going in and out of dormancy.

Mowing: To protect your lawn from the sun in summer, you should cut your lawn ½ an inch higher than normal, and as a result, this means mowing more often.

Fertilizing: You are much safer to avoid fertilizing during summer because you may either burnout your lawn due to the excessive heat or you may encourage growth of weeds since summer temperatures (Above 25 degrees) are when weeds tend to rapidly germinate.
